New Annotation and Software Functionality on all SMART Board Interactive Whiteboards
Free upgrade enables users to annotate over moving or still video, write directly into Microsoft
Word and Excel files, and create templates in SMART Notebook
software
Las Vegas, NV --- June 11, 2002 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the latest SMART Board software for the Microsoft Windows
operating system. This release, which includes SMART Board driver 7.1 and SMART Notebook 2.5 software, features SMART Video Player, expanded interaction with Microsoft Word and Excel applications, and the ability to create templates in SMART Notebook files. These advances enable teachers and presenters to more actively engage audiences and interact with multimedia materials.
With SMART Video Player, users of any SMART Board interactive whiteboard can annotate over moving or still video from a software file, VCR, video camera, projector, scanner, document camera or other hardware connected to a computer, without purchasing additional software or specialized hardware. From coaching and education to weather broadcasting and litigation, SMART Video Player provides a simple way to write over game footage, educational films, satellite images and video evidence.
Working with Microsoft Word and Excel files on a SMART Board interactive whiteboard is now more convenient and intuitive. Previously, users could write over these applications in electronic ink and control them using their finger as a mouse. Now users can also save their annotations directly into the file or convert their handwriting to text and insert it into the Word document or Excel spreadsheet.
Users also have the option to use templates during whiteboarding sessions. Graph paper, ruled sheets, music staves, grid lines and other templates can be inserted as the background for Notebook files. Users can also create and customize their own templates. This feature enables teachers to develop interactive lessons in less time and makes it easy for presenters to create a consistent look for their presentations.
"SMART continues to deliver on our commitment to provide easy-to-use yet feature-rich software for our customers," says Nancy Knowlton, president and COO of SMART Technologies Inc. "By providing SMART Video Player and other new features as a free upgrade, we can ensure SMART customers continue to have access to the latest innovations in whiteboarding software."
